Bishop Matthias’ tour in Toronto

The Rt Revd Matthias Der, bishop of Diocese of Hong Kong Island, was invited to deliver the Convocation Address to the graduating class of 2023 of Wycliffe College on May 8th 2023. On the same occasion, the Wycliffe College bestowed an honorary Doctor of Divinity upon Bishop Matthias. At the address of the Convocation, he said he was humbled by this honour and this honour belongs to all those he has served with, including archbishops, bishops, clergy and the faithful of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. As a member of Wycliffe’s Class of 1990, he encouraged the graduating class to see God’s calling as a privilege and that they will serve God with humility, joy and hope.
During his stay in Toronto, Bishop Matthias preached at St James’ Cathedral on 30th April. From 6th to 7th May, he led the Spring Conference jointly organized by the four Chinese-speaking parishes in the Diocese of Toronto, in which 250 people were encouraged to spread the Good News in the ever-changing world. On 13th May, Bishop Matthias attended the Sunday Service of St Christopher’s Church, and gave the benediction.
On this tour, Bishop Matthias was happy to meet some immigrants from Hong Kong and offered encouragement for their new transition.
