The Structure of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island
The Diocese of Hong Kong Island is a member of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui. The Province of Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui is comprised of three dioceses and one missionary area, including the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, the Diocese of Eastern Kowloon, the Diocese of Western Kowloon and the Missionary Area of Macau.
The Diocese is led by the Diocesan Bishop and governed by the Diocesan Synod. Under the Synod there is a layer of Committees responsible for different areas of ministry, working together to grow the Church.
The geographic area of the Diocese of Hong Kong Island is comprised of Hong Kong Island, Lantau Island and other Island Districts. The Diocese has 16 churches, within which there are 10 parishes and 6 mission churches.
Moreover, there are 14 Nurseries/Kindergartens, 15 Primary Schools and 9 Secondary Schools under Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Education Services in the Diocese of Hong Kong Island, which provide Christian based education to students with a balance in moral, intellectual, physical fitness, social, aesthetic and spiritual developments.
In the area of social services, Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui Welfare Council, St James’ Settlement and SKH St Christopher’s Home provide a wide range of services for the people’s needs in the community of the Diocese. The parishes in the Diocese are always working closely with the schools and social service units to develop the mission and pastoral work.
